The city’s Department of Public Works has divided the city into seven zones and designated time periods for each zone to enjoy the special pickup privileges. Periods for the first three zones, located on the north and south sides, have already passed.
Special pickup for a zone on the west side continues until May 10. It’s followed by zones on the south, northwest and east sides. Go here for a map and schedule.
DPW says it’s accepting “unwanted furniture, mattresses, household items, brush, up to 5 tires and extra recyclables” at no extra cost.
At the beginning of 2011, the city reduced the volume of trash it would pickup from the ground (items set next to trash bins) from two cubic yards to one. One cubic yard is about the size of an easy chair or seven 30-gallon trash bags.
The nonprofit Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful is also organizing neighborhood cleanups to coincide with the Clean and Green pickups. Go here for more info.
