A long-standing Milwaukee liquor chain says it’s resolved a trademark dispute with two competing stores.
Discount Liquor – which has stores on West Oklahoma Avenue in Milwaukee and on Barstow Street in Waukesha – says it’s reached agreement with the competitors – Cleveland Discount Liquor on West Cleveland Avenue in West Allis and Ridins Discount Liquor on North 35th Street in Milwaukee – to remove the words “Discount Liquor” from their names.
The chain has registered “Discount Liquor, Inc.” as a trademark with the office of the Wisconsin Secretary of State. It claims to have used the name since 1968.
“We could not risk any damage to our business’ excellent reputation that may have been done by the operator of an unrelated store with a confusingly similar name,” said a statement from Frank Greguska, co-owner of the stores.
He also says Discount Liquor “looks forward to resolving similar disputes.” Hmm. Who’s next? Kimbee’s Discount Liquor on North 27th Street in Milwaukee? Vliet Discount Liquor on West Vliet Street in Milwaukee? Brook-Falls Discount Liquor on West Lisbon Road in Brookfield?
