Congressman Paul Ryan (1st District-WI) is seeing a lot of familiar faces at town hall meetings.

During Congress’ two week Easter break, which ends today, he went on a “listening tour” of his district, holding town hall meetings in local auditoriums, businesses and at least one police station.

Ryan hit the road not long after spearheading a House budget plan that would cut deeply into federal spending and remake Medicare. Under the plan, seniors would receive vouchers to buy private insurance policies.

Citizen Action Wisconsin and the Milwaukee Labor Council say “a traveling band of seniors” tailed Ryan on during his listening tour to protest the Medicare plan.

“They have been and they will be trailing all his listening session and (doing) their best to get themselves heard. They’re speaking out against this insane plan,” Shelia Cochran, secretary of the Milwaukee Labor Council, told Politico.

These occasionally raucous town halls made national news as protestors booed (and others cheered) Ryan.

According to USA Today, Ryan pointed out one attendee who admitted to changing his shirt in an effort to get the congressman to call on him twice in one day.

Cochran draws parallels between Ryan and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, whose proposed state budget and legislation limiting public employee unions in the state have spawned protests. “The only difference between the two is that there is someone who can stop Paul Ryan,” she says.
