Just how well-adjusted are Wisconsinites, in a touchy-feely, get-in-touch-with-your-inner-spirit sort of way?

Not so much, says a new ranking from Gallup based on a year’s worth of telephone surveys.
Wisconsin ranked 23rd, but our fair neighbor to the west, Minnesota, ranked sixth. The states boasting the greatest well-being, in descending order, were Hawaii, Wyoming, North Dakota, Alaska and Colorado, all of which, with the possible exception of North Dakota, are known for their natural beauty. (It must be serenity-inducing.)
The ranking was based on how people evaluated their lives, their emotional health, work environment, physical health and access to basic necessities.
Other Midwestern states were decidedly less serene than Wisconsin: Illinois (26), Indiana (39) and Michigan (41). But Iowa, perhaps due to its calming amber waves of corn, ranked 19th.
Nationally – as part of a partnership between Gallup and health care firm Healthways – the pollster surveyed 352,840 adults last year on their well-being.
