Author: Those words are rolling around in my head this morning. A month ago, no one had heard of JoAnne Kloppenburg. Had the election gone as WMC and their “justice” David Prosser had planned, he would have won in a walk and yet now he might still lose to a new comer. Congratulations to JoAnne and to all those who marched, picketed, voted, and got neighbors to vote. She might still win when all the votes are counted, but even if Prosser squeaks in she ran a hell of a race and will play a major role in the future.
Wisconsin politics will never be the same. We can, in a perverse way, thank Scott Walker, “the arrogant,” for getting us into the streets; we can thank the “Fab 14″ (although Cullen should be dropped from the team) for slowing the train; we can thank the voters who agreed that this is a battle that must continue.
So, Chris Able replaces Walker in Milwaukee as County Exec; Paul Soglin is back; Mayor Dave will have a bright future; Joe Parisi will head government in Dane County.
I don’t want to be Pollyanna, but I feel good and I am happy we rented the Barrymore for the party tonight. Join us and enjoy the moment. On to the recount! On to the recalls!
